Sigri Indian BBQ, one of the few Indian barbecue franchise brands in the United States, is expanding to the Chicago area under a new multi-unit agreement led by entrepreneur Niraj Shah. The openings, set for Schaumburg and Naperville in 2026, mark the brand’s entry into the Midwest.

The announcement comes as Craveworthy Brands, a multi-brand restaurant platform, officially launches Sigri’s national franchise program. The move follows growing consumer demand and viral social media interest in the brand’s North Indian barbecue dishes.

Shah, who began his career in Virginia’s convenience stores before building a successful bar and restaurant business in Illinois, said joining Sigri felt like a return to his roots.

“As a longtime food and beverage operator, I’ve always believed in the power of hospitality to create community,” Shah said. “When I discovered Sigri, it felt like reconnecting with a beloved culture I am familiar with — the flavors, the warmth, the tradition. Bringing that to Chicago, a city known for its diverse food culture, felt like the perfect next step in my journey.”

Founded in 2015, Sigri draws inspiration from India’s roadside eateries, known as dhabas, offering dishes cooked on an open flame. Its menu includes grilled meats, kebabs, and kathi rolls, prepared with fresh ingredients and customizable options.

“Sigri was created to share a flavorful journey rooted in centuries of tradition and to feel like home,” said Utkarsh Yadiv, co-founder of Sigri. “Niraj brings entrepreneurial heart and industry experience, making him the right steward for Sigri’s next chapter in Chicago.”

Craveworthy Brands CEO and founder Gregg Majewski said the brand’s rapid online following played a key role in the expansion strategy.

“The positive response we’ve received from consumers and entrepreneurs alike has been incredible,” Majewski said. “When fans are asking for Sigri in their communities, we listen.”

Sigri’s franchise rollout will initially focus on states including Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Nevada and Texas. Backed by Craveworthy’s operational support, Sigri aims to bring its North Indian barbecue concept to more U.S. markets as demand for global cuisine continues to grow.

Shah said he hopes the new locations will offer diners “something entirely new” while staying true to Indian culinary traditions.
