Sakhi to host annual fundraiser on May 1

The event targets support for South Asian survivors with tickets and major sponsorships.

Sakhi for South Asian Survivors will host its 2026 fundraising gala on May 1 at The Glasshouse in New York.

The event themed 'In Our Power' will feature a panel discussion with prominent female South Asian and diaspora voices to raise funds and awareness for survivors of gender-based violence.

The discussion will be moderated by Geeta Gandbhir, an Oscar-nominated Indian-American documentary filmmaker known for works addressing social justice issues. It will feature panelists ALOK, Tehrima Rai, Charan Sandhu, and Neha Desai Shah. 

ALOK, also known as Alok Vaid-Menon, is a gender-nonconforming writer, performance artist, comedian, public speaker, and activist recognized for advocacy on gender fluidity, queer South Asian themes, and self-expression through poetry and media.

Tehrima Rai is a board-certified pediatrician and fellow in developmental and behavioral pediatrics at Montefiore Health System with expertise in child development and behavioral health.

Charan Sandhu is head of Weil, Gotshal & Manges' Technology & IP Transactions practice and a member of the firm's privacy and cybersecurity group. She is a recognized leader in intellectual property and technology law, active in pro bono work for organizations including the Sikh Coalition.

Neha Desai Shah is co-founder and president of GEP, a procurement and supply chain company focused on growth strategies and strategic relationships. She serves as an advisory board member of Sakhi for South Asian Survivors and supports initiatives for survivors of gender-based violence.

The gala will be chaired by Sejal Shah, who serves as vice board co-chair of Sakhi for South Asian Survivors. She is also a writer and author whose work explores South Asian American identity, race, place, invisible disability, and neurodiversity.

The event builds on Sakhi's more than 37 years of service as a nonprofit dedicated to aiding South Asian and Indo-Caribbean individuals facing gender-based violence through crisis intervention, legal advocacy, housing support, and culturally responsive counseling.
