Rakesh Sindhi to lead WVU Medicine’s expanded transplant care
Sindhi received his medical degree from Armed Forces Medical College in Pune.

Dr. Rakesh Sindhi, an internationally recognized Indian-origin surgeon and health care leader, has been appointed by WVU Medicine as executive director of the Center for Organ Transplantation to expand lifesaving transplant care across the region.
WVU Medicine on Aug. 21 announced the appointment of Dr. Sindhi as executive director of the WVU Medicine Center for Organ Transplantation, formerly known as the WVU Medicine Transplant Alliance.

In his new role, Dr. Sindhi, who received his medical degree from Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, will provide strategic leadership for the continued growth of transplant services across the WVU Health System.
He will work closely with physicians, clinical teams and system leaders to advance innovation, expand patient access and strengthen the center’s position as a regional and national destination for comprehensive transplant care.
Sindhi has published hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and is internationally recognized for his contributions to transplant medicine and precision immunology.

He previously served as co-director of pediatric transplantation, director of pediatric transplant research and professor of surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
At UPMC Children’s, Sindhi also established the Center for Computational Immunogenetics and Drug Repurposing.
He began liver and intestinal transplants at UPMC Children’s in 1999.
