Over 30 organizations join CGI LA's Yoga Day celebration

The attendees engaged in meditation, breathing exercises, and wellness activities aimed at promoting physical health, mental well-being, and healthy aging.

The Consulate General of India in Los Angeles celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, on June 21.

Held in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and several leading yoga and wellness organizations from Southern California, the event witnessed participation from members of the Indian diaspora, yoga practitioners, students, wellness professionals, community leaders, representatives of yoga organizations, and people from across Southern California, apart from several distinguished guests, including Councilmember Zeel Ahir and Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman.

The attendees engaged in meditation, breathing exercises, and wellness activities aimed at promoting physical health, mental well-being, and healthy aging.

Addressing the gathering, Consul General Dr. K. J. Srinivasa highlighted yoga as India's timeless gift to humanity and its growing relevance in addressing today's lifestyle challenges. He noted that yoga promotes harmony between mind and body and serves as a powerful tool for preventive health care and overall well-being.

The festivities featured participation from more than 30 yoga and wellness organizations, which showcased diverse traditions and approaches to yoga, meditation, holistic health, and wellness.

Organizations including Sadhguru's Isha Foundation, Art of Living Los Angeles, World Yoga Federation, Vyasa LA, and Chinmaya Mission, among many others, contributed to the event.

The event also featured wellness exhibitions, guided meditation sessions, cultural presentations, and interactive activities for participants of all age groups. Dedicated stalls were set up by participating organizations to provide information on yoga, mindfulness, Ayurveda, and holistic living practices.

Curtain-raiser events were organized in collaboration with Art of Living and Isha Foundation, while additional community yoga programs were supported in San Diego on June 20, Irvine on June 21, Mesa, Arizona, on June 20, Phoenix, Arizona, on June 21, and Las Vegas on June 21.

International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, the 12th edition, was observed globally on June 21, 2026, with the official theme, "Yoga for Healthy Aging."

The main national event in India was held in Kolkata, West Bengal, and attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing yoga's role in promoting physical mobility, mental well-being, and graceful aging across all stages of life.

Celebrations were hosted by Indian consulates and community organizations across the globe as part of IDY 2026.
