MSU professor wins grant to study India’s Chilika Lake

Dr. Padmanava Dash holds expertise in decoding the conditions under which water quality issues develop, assessing impacts and developing strategies for their mitigation.

Dr. Padmanava Dash, an associate professor in the Department of Geosciences at Mississippi State University, was selected for the 2026 Global Development Seed Grant (GDSG) cohort for his environmental research on India's Chilika Lake.

Dr. Dash specializes in ocean color remote sensing, limnology, harmful algal blooms (HABs), harmful microorganisms (pathogens), toxic metals, nutrient flux, biological oceanography and ocean biogeochemistry. He holds a Ph.D. in oceanography and coastal sciences from Louisiana State University and an M.S. in geology from Bowling Green State University.
