Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller officially became the Democratic nominees for Maryland's November gubernatorial election after Moore won the June 23 primary.

The result keeps Miller on the statewide ticket as she seeks a second term alongside Moore, with Democrats touting the administration's record on public safety, education and economic growth ahead of the general election.

In a statement following the primary, Miller pointed to what she described as progress made under the Moore administration, including declines in violent crime, economic growth and investments in public education.

"Together we have made real progress here in Maryland, but the job's not done," Miller said. "Record drops in violent crime, a stronger economy, better public schools—that's what we've been able to deliver for Maryland."

The Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association (DLGA) also celebrated the primary victory, highlighting Miller's work in office.

"Maryland Democrats said 'four more years!' and re-nominated Gov. Wes Moore and Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller," the organization said in a social media post.

The DLGA credited Miller with advancing STEM education and equity initiatives, expanding access to mental health services and helping reduce red tape for small businesses. It added that it was proud to support her reelection bid.

Miller acknowledged the nomination in a brief social media post, writing: "Thank you, Maryland!"

Born in Hyderabad, India, Miller immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of seven and later built a career as a civil and transportation engineer. She previously represented Maryland's District 15 in the House of Delegates from 2010 to 2018.

Miller made history in 2022 as the first immigrant, first Asian American and first woman of color elected to statewide office in Maryland. She is also the first South Asian woman elected lieutenant governor in the United States.

Moore, announcing the campaign's reelection bid, said Maryland must continue efforts to reduce crime, grow the economy and invest in public schools. The governor cited tax relief for middle-class families, record-low unemployment, more than 55,000 new businesses and improvements in teacher staffing as key accomplishments of the administration.

The incumbent Moore-Miller ticket also entered the general election with significant financial backing, reporting a record-breaking fundraising year and more than $7 million cash on hand.

The ticket has received endorsements from major labor organizations, education groups, conservation advocates and bipartisan leaders across the state.

The Moore-Miller ticket is expected to face Republican nominee Dan Cox and his running mate in Maryland's Nov. 3 general election.
