Nikhil Gupta. / U.S. District Court
A US judge in Manhattan has approved the substitution of counsel for Indian national Nikhil Gupta, accused in a U.S. murder-for-hire plot, and scheduled a pretrial conference for Nov. 14, 2025, to set a new trial date. Judge Victor Marrero relieved defence attorney Matthew Laroche and appointed David Touger as court-appointed CJA counsel, according to a minute entry from Oct. 21 hearing.
Gupta, who has pleaded not guilty to murder-for-hire and conspiracy charges, appeared in court with the assistance of an interpreter. He remains in federal custody as pretrial proceedings continue in the Southern District of New York.
