Jagdip Ahluwalia was honored with the Community Impact Award at the Houston Business Journal’s inaugural ‘Community Leadership Awards 2026,’ held April 8 at Union Station at Daikin Park in Houston.
The award, presented by the Houston Business Journal, recognized leaders and organizations contributing to inclusion, sustainability and leadership across the greater Houston region. The publication’s audience includes senior executives and decision-makers, underscoring the scope of the recognition.

Ahluwalia serves as executive director and founding secretary of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston. His work has focused on strengthening business and civic ties between Houston and India over several decades.
An engineering graduate of the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ahluwalia brings more than 35 years of experience in teaching, manufacturing, business management and consulting. His contributions include promoting bilateral trade and investment between India and the United States through roles with the Houston District Export Council and the Mayor’s International Trade Council for South Asia.
He also played a role in forming the Alliance of Indo-American Chambers in the United States and was recognized by the Greater Dallas Indo-American Chamber with an Outstanding Leadership Award. His community involvement includes participation in Leadership Houston and the American Leadership Forum, where he served on the board of trustees of the Gulf Coast chapter and chaired its selection committee.
Ahluwalia has also been active in civic and service organizations. As past president of the Rotary Club of Memorial Spring Branch, he led a Rotary Group Study Exchange from Houston to India. He has worked with Harris County officials to promote investment from India, including efforts tied to Mahindra’s tractor division establishing its U.S. headquarters in the region.
He has previously been recognized at the Greater Houston Procurement Breakfast for advocacy on behalf of local businesses and at the India Culture Center’s annual Republic Day celebrations for more than 15 years of work supporting Indo-U.S. trade and the Houston business community.
Founded more than 25 years ago, the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston connects businesses, investors and institutions in Houston and India. The organization focuses on trade, investment and business engagement, including delegations, public forums and small business programming.
Other honorees at the event included India House Houston, the Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce and the Musa and Khaleda Dakri Center for Economic Inclusion at the University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business.
