Indian American leaders urge gun reforms after Brown University shooting
The shooting left two people dead and eight others injured at the Ivy League campus in Providence, Rhode Island.

Indian American leaders have condemned the deadly mass shooting at Brown University on Dec. 14, urging immediate action on gun safety legislation amid national mourning for the victims.
Rep. Ro Khanna described the incident as a "horrific mass shooting," stating, "We simply do not have to live this way. The failure to pass gun safety legislation is a moral stain & innocent Americans pay the price time and again."

Rep. Pramila Jayapal echoed the sentiment, writing, "It is so wrong that these mass shootings continue to happen. ... It should move us to action to enact real gun safety reforms."

New York City Mayor-Elect Zohran Kwame Mamdani also addressed the tragedy in a detailed statement, calling gun violence an "epidemic" across America. He wrote: "This senseless violence—once considered unfathomable—has become nauseatingly normal to all of us across our nation. ... But unlike so many other epidemics, we possess the cure. We have the power to eradicate this suffering from our lives if we so choose."

Mamdani extended condolences to the victims' families and the Brown community, adding, "May we never allow ourselves to grow numb to this pain, and let us rededicate ourselves to the enduring work of ending the scourge of gun violence in our nation."
The shooting left two people dead and eight others injured at the Ivy League campus in Providence, Rhode Island. The attack occurred on the eve of the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, amplifying calls for change.
