In a historic first, Los Angeles City Hall was illuminated to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The special event was hosted by the Los Angeles City Council in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, Los Angeles.
The celebration was organized by Nithya Raman, the first-ever Indian American elected to the Los Angeles City Council. The ceremony featured the lighting of traditional Indian lamps, cultural performances of Indian music and dance, and the official presentation of a Diwali Proclamation.

Nithya Raman, joined fellow council members John Lee and Tim McOsker, in presenting the proclamation and welcoming Indian Consul General Dr K J Srinivasa. The event was graced by former Mayor of Los Angeles and U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti and Indan diaspora leaders and members from across the region.
The Consulate General of India extended its gratitude to the City of Los Angeles for its recognition of the Indo-American community and its contribution to the city's vibrant multicultural fabric.
This celebration comes just weeks after the State of California officially declared Diwali a state holiday, recognizing the cultural and spiritual significance of the festival for millions of residents across the state.
