Heartfulness set a Guinness World Record for the most viewers of a guided meditation livestream on YouTube, with an estimated 20 million people participating worldwide on World Meditation Day 2025.

The record-setting meditation was held on Dec. 21 and streamed live on the official Heartfulness YouTube channel. The session was led by Daaji (Kamlesh D. Patel), the global guide of Heartfulness and president of Ram Chandra Mission.

Participants from 175 countries joined the Dec. 21 meditation through a combination of physical gatherings, institutional programs, and online participation. Organizers said the scale of participation made it one of the largest meditation-led global events recorded to date.

The main session took place at Kanha Shanti Vanam, Heartfulness’ headquarters in Telangana and one of the world’s largest meditation centers.

The event was attended by vice president of India C. P. Radhakrishnan, Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, and Telangana Minister for IT D. Sridhar Babu.

Institutional participation contributed significantly to the reach of the initiative. More than 2,500 police stations across Madhya Pradesh hosted meditation sessions, with over 50,000 police personnel taking part simultaneously.

Schools, colleges, corporate offices, city administrations, and local government bodies across India organized parallel sessions. Outside India, more than 200 embassies and consulates participated, along with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.

The event was supported by Heartfulness’ volunteer network, with about 16,000 trained volunteers facilitating sessions across 280 ashrams and more than 6,000 centers worldwide. Media coverage across more than 100 television channels further extended the event’s visibility, organizers said.

The guided session included an introduction, relaxation, and collective meditation incorporating Pranahuti, a Heartfulness practice described by the organization as yogic transmission.

Participants were able to join from any location and were advised to follow the session from a quiet space. Organisers said registered participants received a digital certificate following the meditation.

Guinness World Records formally recognised the achievement under the category of most viewers of a guided meditation video livestream on YouTube.

Heartfulness said post-event engagement will continue through replay access on YouTube, local Heartspots, free trainers, masterclasses, and its mobile application.

Founded in 1945 through the establishment of Shri Ram Chandra Mission, Heartfulness is a Telangana-based educational non-profit that offers heart-based meditation practices in more than 160 countries.
