Congressional candidate and former secretary of the Republican Party of Milwaukee County, Purnima Nath, has drawn attention for remarks positioning herself as “a part of the American story” while criticizing MAGA-aligned policies.
Nath, who was recently expelled by the Republican Party of Milwaukee County, is running for the U.S. House of Representatives from Wisconsin’s 4th District. She outlined her differences with members of her party during the Republican Party Congressional District WI-4 caucus on March 28.
“I stand before you as a proud Republican — but not the kind the MAGA faction wants,” Nath said. “I criticize policies that put America at risk through erratic decisions, neglect of domestic priorities, disregard for international law, and a pattern of wars, invasions, threats, and humiliation on the global stage.”

Contrasting herself with hardline conservatives, she added, “I am Hindu, not Christian. I am brown, not white. Nor Black. I am a legal immigrant, not an invader.”
“People like me are not here to steal anyone’s job. We work, we contribute, and we strengthen this nation every day. We are part of the American story. And yet, some — even within our own party — tell us to ‘go back to India,’” she said.
Nath, who has said her removal from the county party stemmed from her refusal to show “blind allegiance to any cult and propaganda machine,” also questioned the meaning of “America First.”
“What does ‘America First’ truly stand for? Is it about strength — or about exclusion? Is it about leadership — or about dominance at the expense of others?” she said.
She emphasized her commitment to constitutional principles, saying her “allegiance is to the enduring principles that made this country strong: freedom of religion, freedom of speech and expression, and the liberty to pursue happiness.”

Addressing the idea of assimilation, Nath asked, “Must I erase my faith, my heritage, my culture — just to belong? To be accepted?”
“I am here to stay. I am here to serve this country the right way,” she said, adding that Indian immigrants are part of the nation’s fabric.
She also criticized identity-based labels, saying, “Do not place me — or anyone like me — into the narrow boxes of DEI labels or white Christian supremacy. I call it what it is: ‘Discrimination by Ethnicity and Identity — DEI.’ This is not freedom. It is exclusion, dressed up as virtue.”
Nath has previously run for multiple offices as a Republican candidate, including the U.S. House, Wisconsin State Assembly, Milwaukee County executive, and Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. She also served as an alternate delegate to the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
