Indian-origin British MP Jas Athwal warned that racism and anti-Sikh hate are “actively destroying communities” during a parliamentary event on tackling hate, far-right extremism, and the invisibility of Sikhs in public policy.
The event, held Thursday at the UK Parliament, was hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for British Sikhs, The Sikh Network, and the Sikh Federation UK. It brought together lawmakers, activists, and community leaders to discuss the growing threat posed by far-right ideology and its impact on minority groups.
Athwal, who chairs the APPG for British Sikhs, said the rise in racism “is not just a threat to our British way of life, but it is actively destroying communities and traumatising individuals now.”
