At Stanford, experts say India feels betrayed by U.S.

The 2026 Oksenberg Conference at Stanford University highlighted growing strain in India-U.S. relations, with experts saying New Delhi feels “betrayed” by recent U.S. actions even as it seeks to preserve the partnership in a shifting Indo-Pacific order.

At the annual gathering hosted by the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center, scholars and former officials said India is reassessing its ties with Washington as U.S. foreign policy becomes more unpredictable and transactional under President Donald Trump’s second term.
