A 45-year-old Indian woman was shot dead at a convenience store in the US state of Virginia on May 23.
The victim, identified as Meghnaben Patel, had been working at Fat Philly’s convenience store in Norfolk, Virginia, for nearly 10 years, according to her family.

CCTV footage from inside the store showed a man wearing animal-print trousers and a grey jacket entering the nearly empty store with his face covered. The man approached the counter where Patel was working and appeared to engage in a brief conversation with her.
Moments later, the attacker pulled out a handgun from his pocket and opened fire, the footage showed. Patel collapsed behind the counter as the gunman climbed over it and continued firing before fleeing the store.
Local police responded to the shooting and cordoned off the area before launching an investigation. Authorities also deployed special teams to trace the attacker.
Police had earlier responded at around 8:13 a.m. on May 23 to a domestic dispute at a residence on Blackwood Avenue in Norfolk’s Greenwood area. Reports indicated that a man allegedly shot his stepfather during an argument before leaving the scene.
Police said the 45-year-old stepfather suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Roughly 20 minutes later, the suspect allegedly arrived at the convenience store, located a short distance away, where Patel was fatally shot.
Authorities later located the suspect inside a running vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they were not searching for additional suspects and that the investigation remains ongoing.
