GOPIO-CT organizes India Festival in Stamford

Connecticut State Senators presented a citation from State Assembly declaring Aug. 10 as 'India Day' in Connecticut.

Global Organization of People of Indian Origin-Connecticut chapter (GOPIO-CT) organized India Festival, to celebrate India's 79th Independence Day, in Stamford.

Working in collaboration with Stamford City and Mill River Park Collaborative, the event witnessed participation from over a thousand attendees.

Held at the Stamford Govt. Center,  the American, Indian and Connecticut flags were hoisted in the presence of Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons, Norwalk Mayor Hatty Rilling, Consul Pragya Singh from the Indian Consulate who is also the Head of the Indian Chancery along with Connecticut State Senators.

During the ceremony, Connecticut State Senators Bob Duff, Sujata Wadkar-Wilcox and Representative Lucy Dathan presented a citation from Connecticut State Assembly declaring Aug. 10 as 'India Day' in Connecticut.

The ceremony was followed by Indian folk, classical and Bollywood dances, music; kite flying and vendors selling Indian clothes and Indian food.

GOPIO-CT also recognized Joseph Simon with the India Independence Liberty Award. Indian-American Cayla Kumar was recognized for her winning Miss Connecticut. High School graduates of 2025 were also recognized.
