Extreme weather, rising costs put AANHPI homeownership at risk: Report

A new survey reveals that average home insurance rates could climb by up to 75 percent by the end of 2025.

More than 60 percent of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) homeowners rely on mortgages, and a new report says their ability to maintain or recover those homes is increasingly threatened by climate disasters and soaring costs.

According to the 2025 State of Asia America report released this week by the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA), AANHPI families are particularly vulnerable when extreme weather strikes. In the 2023 wildfires in Lahaina, Hawaii, only three homes have been rebuilt to date. Nationally, the U.S. experienced 27 extreme weather events last year alone.
