An Indian-origin Sikh cab driver in the UK, affectionately known as Reg, has received overwhelming support from a global YouTube community after the popular creators behind ‘Yes Theory’ launched a fundraiser to help him escape lifelong debt.

The campaign, started on GoFundMe last week, surpassed its original goal of £113,000 ($127,130.56) within 24 hours and has now raised over £188,000 (approximately $212,713.48 ) at the time of writing.

The drive was sparked after Yes Theory—a group of creators known for pushing boundaries and connecting with strangers—reunited with Reg nearly two years after first meeting him during one of their viral adventures. Their original 2023 video, titled "I Paid a Taxi $10,000 to See How Far it Takes Me!", featured Reg as the unexpectedly enthusiastic cabbie who agreed to the journey without hesitation.

The video quickly became a fan favorite, not only for the absurdity of the challenge but for Reg’s warmth, wit, and unfiltered wisdom, captured on what they called the "Reg Cam."

Yes Theory, which started in 2015 and now has 9.5 million subscribers, is known for spontaneous, human-first storytelling. The team—Ammar, Thomas, Derin, and Matt—says their mission is to “seek discomfort” and find connection through shared experiences.

They met Reg while filming unconventional adventures, and subsequently took him on a dream trip across the US, including a yacht ride in Miami, a cowboy-style Hollywood experience in Austin, and a helicopter tour of New York City.

It was during this dream trip that Reg shared the personal toll his life had taken. He had quit his job to care full-time for his ailing mother, a choice he doesn’t regret, but one that left him financially devastated.

Over the years, he had repaid £90,000 (approximately $114,000) on a loan of £70,000 (approximately $89,000), yet still owed another £113,000 (approximately $143,000) due to interest. Touched by his story, Yes Theory gave Reg a $10,000 cheque, but knew more was needed.

They launched the GoFundMe with the hashtag #FreeReg and an initial goal of £113,000 ($127,130.56). After the target was met in a single day, they raised it to £150,000 to give Reg some breathing room and ease the burden of working seven days a week. “Thank you to ALL OF YOU who made this dream come true,” Yes Theory wrote in a post. “We have now increased the goal to 150,000 pounds to give Reg further breathing room in his life.”

Messages from donors also revealed the community's admiration for Reg. “We all struggle, but you, Reg, are definitely one of the most deserving people to have this happen,” wrote one contributor. “Go live that best life King Reg!” said another.
