World Malayalee Council installs new global leadership

Under the new leadership, WMC aims to deepen its presence in international forums and foster cross-cultural dialogue.

The World Malayalee Council (WMC) formally introduced its newly elected global leadership for the 2025–2027 term at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Corniche Hotel in Sharjah. 

The event marked a significant milestone in the organization’s ongoing mission to unite and empower the global Malayalee diaspora through service, collaboration, and cultural solidarity.

Isaac John Pattaniparambil, a veteran journalist, assumed office as the global chairman. With over five decades of professional experience in the UAE’s media landscape and currently serving as managing editor of Khaleej Times, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential Indian journalists in the Gulf region

A long-serving member of WMC, Issachas previously held several senior leadership roles, including global chairman, president, global ambassador, and advisory board chair. His appointment is expected to usher in a period of visionary, principled, and inclusive leadership, the organization said.

Baby Mathew Somatheeram, a pioneer in ayurveda tourism and chairman of Somatheeram Resorts, has been appointed as the global president. Renowned for his contributions to sustainable tourism and social development, Mathew brings to the role a combination of entrepreneurial acumen and a deep commitment to community service.

Other office bearers  include Moosa Koya (general secretary, Al Kobar), Thomas Chellath (treasurer, Dallas), Johnny Kuruvilla (global goodwill ambassador, Muscat), and Sasi Nadakkal (vice president, administration, Kollam). A diverse group of vice presidents, vice chairpersons, secretaries, and forum leaders also formally assumed office.

The ceremony was attended by several eminent dignitaries, including Ramesh Chennithala, Ambassador T.P. Sreenivasan, former Additional Chief Secretary of Kerala P.H. Kurian, and MLA Sanjeev Joseph, who extended their congratulations and affirmed their support for WMC’s global initiatives.

Organised by WMC’s Middle East Chapter, the event underscored the Council’s continued commitment to advancing diaspora engagement, cross-cultural dialogue, and community empowerment across its 78 provinces in 30 countries.
