Indian-American leaders across the United States marked the country’s 249th Independence Day with messages of pride, unity, and renewed commitment to American ideals.
Representative Ami Bera (CA-06), the longest-serving Indian-American currently in Congress, shared, “Happy Fourth of July! As the son of immigrants, I’m grateful every day to live the American Dream. Let’s work together to keep that dream alive—not just for today’s generation, but for generations to come.”

In a video message, Bera shared his personal story and vision for America, saying, “We are blessed to live in the greatest country in the world, the United States of America. It’s a country that my parents came to as immigrants, a country…as a lifelong Californian I was able to go to great public schools, go to college, go to medical school, and now be a member of Congress. That’s the American dream.”

Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08), currently serving as Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, tweeted, “Happy Independence Day, America! Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), the first Indian-American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, wrote, “July 4th is about freedom — freedom to be healthy and have food, freedom from kidnappings by ICE, freedom from authoritarians and dictators. Republicans violated those freedoms by passing their Big Bad Betrayal Bill. But we’ll keep fighting for true freedom and justice.”

Representative Shri Thanedar (MI-13), who represents parts of Detroit and was elected to Congress in 2022, said, “Happy 4th of July! Virginia State Senator Kannan Srinivasan (VA-32) also shared greetings with his constituents, writing, “Happy Independence Day! Wishing everyone a safe, fun, and sparkly 4th of July holiday.”
State Senator for Virginia’s 15th Senatorial District Ghazala Hashmi, Chair of the Senate Education and Health Committee and the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, shared: “Wishing everyone in the Commonwealth and across the country a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday! ”
Vivek Ramaswamy, biotech entrepreneur and Republican candidate for Governor of Ohio, posted a photo of his children and wrote, “The little guys get bigger every year. Happy Fourth!”
Nikki Haley, former South Carolina Governor, U.N. Ambassador, and Republican presidential candidate in 2024, wrote, “Happy 4th of July! Always remember, just how blessed we are to live in the freest, fairest country in the world.”
Zohran Kwame Mamdani, New York State Assemblymember and Democratic nominee for Mayor of New York City, tweeted, “America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home. Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.”

New York State Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar reflected on a line from the Declaration of Independence, calling it her favorite: “We mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.” She added, “It reminds us that America was founded on bold unity. Together, we keep writing the story of freedom.”
