Director of international student and scholar services at the University of Richmond was awarded the Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators (IEA) Award and recently traveled to India to participate in the Fulbright-Nehru IEA Seminar.

During her two-week visit to India,  Krittika Onsanit joined other international education administrators in campus visits, briefings with faculty and administrative leaders at both public and private institutions, and tours of historical and cultural sites.

“Receiving the Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Award was a great honor for me professionally and personally,” Onsanit said. “Being immersed in India’s complex higher education and cultural systems with other international education professionals was a unique experience that I could not have accessed on my own. I hope to use this knowledge to further support our Indian community at Richmond.”

Onsanit has worked at the University of Richmond since 2000. She oversees orientation, advising, and ongoing support for more than 400 non-immigrant students and scholars annually, guiding them on immigration, health insurance, and a wide range of academic, cultural, and personal matters. She also ensures institutional compliance with federal immigration regulations and collaborates with campus partners to build international student support structures.

The program offers U.S. higher education professionals the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of participating countries’ education systems, explore academic partnerships, and exchange best practices on international student and scholar mobility.

Administered by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the IEA Award funds two-week seminars aimed at fostering institutional collaboration between the United States and partner countries.
