Two Indian-origin women among Carnegie's 2025 Great Immigrants honorees

The list recognizes 20 naturalized U.S. citizens whose work has significantly contributed to American society.

Two Indian-origin women, Priyamvada Natarajan and Manjusha (Manju) P. Kulkarni, have been named to the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s 2025 Class of Great Immigrants. The list recognizes 20 naturalized U.S. citizens whose work has significantly contributed to American society. The announcement was made ahead of the Fourth of July as part of a public awareness campaign marking the initiative’s 20th anniversary.

Natarajan, an astrophysicist and professor at Yale University, was born in Coimbatore, India. Encouraged by her academic parents to pursue science, she began mapping the night sky on a home computer as a child. She went on to earn degrees in physics, mathematics, and science from MIT and a PhD in theoretical astrophysics from the University of Cambridge
