President Donald Trump on Aug. 11 confirmed he will meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Aug. 15 in Alaska, saying he hopes to broker what he called “the best deal that could be made for both parties” to end the war in Ukraine.
“This is a war that should have never happened,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “It wouldn’t have happened if I were president. But we’re here now, and I think I have an obligation to try to end it.”
