Internet2, a Michigan based nonprofit computer networking consortium, has appointed Tripti Sinha as its new president and CEO.
Internet2 is a member-driven advanced technology community founded by the nation's leading higher education institutions in 1996. Internet2 serves 347 U.S. universities, 59 government agencies and 46 regional and state education networks.
Sinha will take office on Oct. 15, succeeding current President and CEO, Howard Pfeffer.
Sinha joins the organization with more than three decades of industry experience, having established herself as a leader in information technology, operations, governance, and policy, with a career dedicated to advancing cyberinfrastructure and internet technologies in research and education.
Sinha currently serves as the chief technology officer of the University of Maryland. In this capacity, Sinha heads the Advanced Cyberinfrastructure and Internet Global Services unit in the Division of Information Technology.

She is also the executive director of a multi-state regional research and education network, the Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX).
Internet2 Board chair, Gregory Washington, emphasized on the key considerations that led to the appointment and said in a statement, "Sinha brings strategic vision, technical depth, and proven leadership to build on Internet2's nearly 30-year legacy during a transformational time for research and education."
Washington added, "Embracing the collaboration and trust that define our community, she will unite staff and community members to advance innovation, discovery, and lasting progress for a better world."
Reacting to the appointment, Sinha said in a statement, "It is a privilege to step into the role of President and CEO at Internet2, an organization with a mission that is critical to the future of research and education."
She added, "The collaborative spirit of this community is one of our greatest strengths. I look forward to working with our community and staff to continue pioneering innovative solutions and developing a shared vision for the future."
