Three Indian nationals died when a boat carrying 16 persons, including two minors, overturned in the San Diego area of California, the Department of Homeland Security said on May 6.
Following this, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has requested the Department of Justice to bring alien smuggling charges and seek the death penalty against two Mexican nationals whose human smuggling operation resulted in these three deaths. Officials fear more deaths of illegal immigrants, as seven others on the boats are still missing.
