Spiritual Development Center marks 50 years in NY

The celebration included New York’s first Navchandi Mahayagya- a Vedic ritual dedicated to Goddess Durga.

The Spiritual Development Center, founded by Devendra Vijay Maharaj commemorated its 50th anniversary with a grand celebration in New York. 

The full-day event held on July 12, at the GSNY Community Center brought together hundreds of devotees and well-wishers to mark this significant milestone.

Distinguished guests included the Indian Consul General in New York Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, and his wife, Monalisa Shuvadarshini. Entrepreneur and philanthropist Prem Bhandari and Mohan Nanapanni from Team Aid also attended the event.

The celebrations began with a Shobha Yatra, followed by the Navchandi Mahayagya—organized for the first time in New York. The day continued with Bhajan-Kirtan, traditional and contemporary cultural performances, and a lively Gujarati Diaro. 

The evening featured literary presentations, spiritual discourses, and comedy acts that highlighted the community's deep-rooted cultural and spiritual heritage.

Special recognition was given to president Parag Patel and the organizing team for their efforts in organizing the event.  

Founded in July 1975 on the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, the Center began as an initiative and has grown into a respected institution. Through the years, it has provided free support for medical care, education, disability services, elder care, and disaster relief—impacting countless lives.
