Increased security at Punjab’s Golden Temple following bomb threat warnings

Amritsar's Golden Temple, one of Sikhism's holiest sites, received two bomb threat emails within 24 hours, resulting in increased security and a police investigation.
The temple, officially known as Sri Harmandir Sahib, is managed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which reportedly received two alarming emails referring to a possible bomb threat. The first message arrived in the committee’s official inbox around 7 AM on July 14, followed by an identical one at approximately 3 AM on July 15.

However, the sender did not claim responsibility but appeared to be informing the SGPC of another person's alleged intentions. The tone suggested concern, as if the writer hoped to avert a potential tragedy.
The committee contacted the police and requested swift action. SGPC secretary S. Partap Singh said, “People from all religions visit this sacred place to find peace. Therefore, anyone who thinks about harming this universal spiritual site cannot belong to any true religion.”
Amritsar Police confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed. The case is under investigation with support from the State Cyber Crime Unit and other agencies, who are working to trace the source and assess the credibility of the threat.
In the meantime, a Bomb Disposal Squad, the SGPC’s internal Task Force, and additional personnel have been deployed around the temple complex. Officials assured the public that all precautionary measures are in place and the situation is being closely monitored.
