Oscar Concessao, an Indian architect and alumnus of the University of Oklahoma, will be inducted into the 2025 Hall of Fame at the university’s Gibbs College of Architecture.
Concessao completed his Master's degree in Architecture with a specialization in Urban Design from the University of Oklahoma in 1987. That same year, at age 23, he won the William Van Allen International Fellowship Design Competition. He later pursued advanced professional studies at Harvard University and received honorary doctorates from the University of Malaysia and the Universita di Milano.
Born in Valencia, Mangalore, and educated at St. Aloysius School, Concessao earned his undergraduate degree in architecture from the Regional Engineering College (now NIT Tiruchirappalli). In 2014, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from NIT during its Golden Jubilee celebrations, presented by the late President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
In March 2025, Concessao was also honored with the Eminent Aloysian Award by his alma mater, St. Aloysius Institutions.
Over the course of his career, Concessao has received 218 international, national, and state awards for architectural excellence. His recent work includes designing the Telangana State Secretariat in Hyderabad. He and his wife, architect Dr. Ponni M. Concessao, run Oscar & Ponni Architects, a firm that has received over 68 awards for architecture and interior design.
Concessao has worked in New York with leading architectural firms on skyscrapers, stadiums, hospitals, and institutional buildings. His practice has spanned a wide range of projects, including information technology parks, biotechnology and nanotechnology campuses, government buildings, educational institutions, residential and commercial complexes, and infrastructure across India and the Middle East.
