Applause Entertainment has signed a six-books adaptation deal with novelist and former politician Jeffrey Archer, Deadline reported.

The Aditya Birla Group owned entertainment company has made its maiden deal for an international book acquisition, acquiring Archer's The Clifton Chronicles, Fourth Estate, First Among Equals, The Eleventh Commandment, Sons of Fortune, and Heads You Win.

Known for films like 'Por Thozhil and 'Do aur Do Pyaar' and series' like B’lack Warrant’, ‘The Hunt: The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case’ and ‘Criminal Justice’, Applause will start work on the project immediately and would give more updates within three to six months, said Applause CEO Sameer Nair, during a press conference.

Nair, who admitted to have grown up reading Archer's works, described the acquired works as "wonderful stories to be told", during a press conference in Mumbai, as per Deadline.

Nair also admitted that the format of the stories weren't finalized so far and could be “premium drama series, longform series or movies.” Inviting ideas on  spinning the bestselling books into movies that stand at par with the original works, Nair said, "My entire creative community are Archer fans and I’m hoping they call me."

He added, "I’m putting it out as a challenge to our creative friends."

According to Archer, the partnership is rooted in Applause's ability to stay true to the original story while adapting to a different format. He also emphasized on the need to align with the best minds to ensure that the final product is good. He said, "Get the right person to write the screenplay, you’re on, get the wrong person, you’re out."

He added, "I don’t want the Indian audience saying it’s not as good as the book."

Jeffrey Archer, apart from being a prominent British author, served as a Conservative Member of Parliament from 1969 to 1974 and later as a life peer in the House of Lords.
