Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh told the Rajya Sabha on Aug.21 that India has not experienced a significant “brain drain” of researchers that could harm the development of science and technology in the country.
Singh’s reply comes against the backdrop of long-standing concerns about Indian researchers migrating abroad. A 2016 report by the U.S. National Science Foundation found that Indian-origin scientists and engineers in the U.S. grew by 85 percent between 2003 and 2013, making them the largest immigrant group in the American scientific workforce.
