Set in Mumbai during the 1970s and 1980s, the film is loosely inspired by true events and follows the relentless pursuit of a notorious criminal who escapes from Tihar Jail. The narrative centers on Inspector Madhukar Zende, portrayed by Bajpayee, who embarks on a high-stakes mission to track down the elusive and cunning “swimsuit killer,” Carl Bhojraj, played by Sarbh.

Combining elements of crime, drama, and nostalgia, the film offers a distinct take on traditional cop thrillers by showcasing the investigative prowess and determination of an old-school officer working in a pre-digital era.

Producer Om Raut described the project as a deeply personal one, noting that it was his father's long-standing dream to bring Inspector Zende’s story to the screen. “Inspector Zende’s story is one that deserves to be seen, remembered and celebrated. A gripping chase that’s as entertaining as it is inspiring, and most essentially, it was my father’s dream to make a film on Inspector Zende. Bringing this film to life with Netflix has been an incredible journey.”
