Meenakshi Lekhi claims CIA stole India’s early submarine, drone designs
Lekhi linked India’s scientific achievements and its diaspora’s intellectual capital to larger strategic interests.

Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi stirred controversy Nov. 2, asserting that the first designs for submarines and drones were developed in India and later stolen by the CIA.
Speaking at a legal and policy forum titled “Diaspora at the Crossroads: Law, Policy, and Opportunities” in Bethesda, a Maryland suburb of the American capital, Lekhi claimed that the designs were originally conceived by students at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi but were never built in India due to a lack of funding.
