Intel appoints Indian-Americans to key roles

The appointment is part of Intel’s shift toward a more technically driven, customer-centric organization.

Intel Corporation, a California-based tech company, has appointed Indian-American executives, Srinivasan Iyengar and Shailendra Desai to senior engineering leadership positions. 

Iyengar has been named senior vice president and fellow and Desai has been appointed vice president of artificial intelligence (AI) fabric and networking.

Iyengar will lead Intel’s newly established Customer Engineering Center of Excellence, and also join the Intel executive team, reporting to CEO Lip-Bu Tan. He brings extensive experience from Cadence Design Systems, where he was responsible for global silicon engineering. 

His background includes supporting the development of custom silicon solutions, particularly for hyperscale data center applications.

Desai will report to Sachin Katti, Intel’s chief technology and AI officer, and will oversee the development of system-on-chip (SoC) architectures for Intel’s AI GPUs and related technologies. 

He joins Intel from Google, where he led efforts in silicon engineering and architectural design across several mobile SoC platforms. Desai previously founded Provino Technologies, a startup focused on SoC solutions, which was acquired by Google in 2021.

Both leaders bring experience in semiconductor design and engineering that will support Intel’s ongoing product development and long-term technology roadmap, the company said.
