Lilly Singh, the Canadian YouTuber-turned-entertainer, hosted her fifth annual Diwali celebration in Los Angeles last weekend, themed 'Love & Light: A Royal Affair'. Styled by Indian designer duo Falguni Shane Peacock and inspired by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix hit 'Heeramandi', the event mixed Indian tradition with Hollywood glamour.

Singh’s Diwali parties have become a fixture in Los Angeles’ cultural calendar, known for their blend of South Asian aesthetics and celebrity turnout. Once informal get-togethers, they have evolved into an annual statement of cultural pride and community in Hollywood.

Sharing photos from the night on Instagram, Singh wrote that her goal each year is to create “community” and “safe spaces for people to come together.” She said, “I’ve gotten older and seen the world encourage us to isolate and divide, so I’ve really put an emphasis on building safe spaces for people to come together and feel a part of something. I truly believe community is the medicine we all need.”

She acknowledged the scale of the production, admitting, “So yes, the party is over the top and I spend an entire year planning it... but it’s because I’m so passionate about celebrating togetherness.” Singh added that she applies the same effort she gives to her professional projects toward nurturing friendships and community. “Seeing people, making memories, and building safe spaces takes work, coordination, and effort, but it is so beyond worth it,” she said.

The event’s decor was designed by Saman and her team at 2CreateDesigns, transforming the venue into what Singh described as “another world,” complete with floral installations, vintage furniture, and a fountain encircled by Kathak dancers choreographed by ChasingLife. Music came from longtime collaborators 3D Sounds and DJ Nitro, with a guest set by M2Ray.

Singh also highlighted the event’s cultural role in introducing Diwali to those unfamiliar with it. “Every year, I get told things like ‘this was my first Diwali and I cannot wait for next year,’” she wrote. “These things mean the world to me because when I first moved to LA, not many people I met knew much about South Asian culture. And now, Diwali is officially a recognized holiday in California.”

The entertainer said planning for next year’s event will begin soon. “It’s not just because I’m Type A,” she said, “but because I truly love throwing events. It’s my little light throughout the year.”
