India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, on May 23 accused Pakistan of hypocrisy during a UN Security Council open debate on the “Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict.” Responding to Pakistan’s stance on civilian protection at the UN, Harish said, “India has experienced decades of Pakistani sponsored terrorist attacks across our borders,” citing the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the April 2025 killings of tourists in Pahalgam.
He further criticized Pakistan’s leadership for paying respects to militants killed during India’s counter-terrorism Operation Sindoor. “A nation that makes no distinction between terrorists and civilians has no credentials to speak about protecting civilians,” Harish said.
