India demands accountability for cross-border terrorism, urgent UN reform

The UN adopted Pakistan’s resolution urging peaceful conflict resolution and stronger regional cooperation through diplomacy and mediation.

India on July 22 used the United Nations Security Council’s high-level debate on peace and multilateralism to call for strict accountability for cross-border terrorism and a long-overdue reform of the UN’s top decision-making body, even as the Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2788 (2025) to strengthen peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms under Chapter VI of the UN Charter.

“The world cannot preach peace while sheltering perpetrators of terrorism,” declared Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, in a powerful address. He emphasised that states sponsoring cross-border terrorism must pay a cost for violating the spirit of international norms and peaceful coexistence.
