A new Nature study finds most of the gap stems from unequal access to high-paying jobs, not pay bias.

Immigrants to Europe and North America earned on average 17.9 percent less than native-born workers, according to a new study published in Nature by researchers including professor Halil Sabanci and colleagues of the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. This gap, observed in data covering 13.5 million people across nine countries, arises primarily from restricted access to higher-paying industries, companies, and occupations.

The study is titled: Immigrant–native pay gap driven by lack of access to high-paying jobs.
