The Digital Entertainment Group has announced that Shobana Radhakrishnan, an Indian-origin senior director of engineering at Google, will receive the 2025 Hedy Lamarr Award for Innovation in Entertainment Technology.
The award recognizes Radhakrishnan’s pioneering work in applying artificial intelligence to Google TV’s operating system and her broader contributions to the field over two decades.
The award will be presented at an in-person event in Los Angeles this fall, near the Nov.9 anniversary of Hedy Lamarr’s birth. Radhakrishnan, who has previously held senior technical roles at Netflix, Yahoo, Roku, and Mindflash Technologies, led the launch of the first AI-driven innovation for a TV OS at Google. According to DEG, the work set a new standard for personalized recommendations in entertainment platforms.
“DEG is proud to present the Hedy Lamarr Innovation Award for 2025 to Shobana Radhakrishnan of Google for her pioneering work with AI to provide consumers a state-of-the-art experience with personalized recommendations in the Google TV OS,” said Amy Jo Smith, DEG’s president and CEO. “In this year of explosive AI innovation, we honor her track record of important, practical and responsible use of the technology.”
Wendy Aylsworth, CEO and CTO of Walden Pond, will receive the Hedy Lamarr Inspiration Award. With a career spanning more than 30 years at Warner Bros. and Disney, Aylsworth is recognized for helping the entertainment industry transition from legacy systems to more efficient digital workflows, as well as for mentoring and advising future technologists.
The Inspiration Award, established in 2023, is given selectively to individuals who demonstrate leadership and a commitment to developing the next generation of storytellers and engineers.
A third honoree, Shantelle Subkhanberdina, an undergraduate at the University of Michigan studying performing arts technology, will receive the 2025 Hedy Lamarr Achievement Award for Emerging Leaders in Entertainment Technology.
“The strides made by Hedy Lamarr, and by Shobana, Wendy, and countless other female innovators, are multiplying opportunities for the next generation of female technologists like Shantelle,” Smith added.
In her statement, Radhakrishnan described Lamarr as a lifelong influence: “Her success empowered me to travel very diverse paths during my own career — moving across countries, constantly adapting, and overcoming many barriers to hypercharge teams and products in my pursuit of excellence.”
Aylsworth echoed that sentiment: “Hedy Lamarr was an inspiration to me as a young aerospace engineer… To be honored in her name is profound and humbling.”
