The Asian Law Caucus will mark the 157th anniversary of ratification of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. constitution with the event 'I am the fourteenth'.
The event, scheduled for July 9, will advocate for birthright citizenship, due process and equal protection.
The 14th Amendment, ratified on July 9, 1868, is a cornerstone of American constitutional law, addressing citizenship rights and equal protection following the Civil War. This year's commemoration comes at a time when these principles are under scrutiny, particularly with recent legal challenges to birthright citizenship in the United States.
Underscoring the importance of the Amendment, the organizers plan to "lay out a blueprint against authoritarianism guided by the framework of the 14th (amendment) and grounded in organizing, advocacy, and community power," said the Asian Law Caucus on X.
Join us on the anniversary of the ratification of the 14th Amendment, as we lay out a blueprint against authoritarianism guided by the framework of the 14th and grounded in organizing, advocacy, and community power.
