Dr. Kiran Turaga, an alumnus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and chief of surgical oncology at Yale School of Medicine, has led the development of new national guidelines for treating peritoneal surface malignancies (PSMs), a group of cancers that affect the abdominal lining. The guidelines, developed with input from more than 500 experts and institutions, were released on June 25–26 and published in the journals Cancer and Annals of Surgical Oncology.

According to the Yale School of Medicine, the guidelines are the product of a wide-reaching collaboration involving physicians, allied professionals, patient advocacy organizations, and international researchers. They build on the 2018 Chicago consensus and address the estimated 70,000 annual U.S. cases of peritoneal metastases stemming from colorectal, gastric, ovarian, and appendiceal cancers.
