Educationist and Padma Shri awardee Anand Kumar will headline the golden jubilee celebrations of the Bihar Jharkhand Association of North America (BJANA) set to take place on May 24-25.
Held at the Hyatt Regency, New Brunswick, New Jersey, the event will commemorate 50 years since BJANA’s founding and serve as a global conclave, bringing together the diaspora from Bihar and Jharkhand residing in the United States and beyond.

The celebration aims to honor the legacy and achievements of the association in promoting cultural unity and social initiatives.
BJANA president Sanjeev Singh expressed his enthusiasm about Kumar's participation, noting that his work through the Super 30 program exemplifies the values of perseverance, intellect, and social commitment that BJANA upholds.
First started by Kumar in Bihar, the initiative identifies and trains 30 underprivileged students annually for the IIT entrance exams, with remarkable success rates. Despite financial challenges, Kumar has steadfastly expanded the program while refusing external funding.
Kumar has received numerous national and international recognitions for his groundbreaking work through the Super 30 initiative. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2023 and featured in Time magazine’s “Best of Asia 2010.”
The Discovery Channel and BBC showcased his work, and Newsweek named Super 30 among the world’s four most innovative schools. Notably, his life has also inspired the Bollywood film Super 30, starring Hrithik Roshan.
Kumar served as Korea’s honorary tourism ambassador for 2024, promoting cultural and educational ties. He was also honored by the governments of Germany and Canada and was praised in the Canadian Parliament for his transformative educational model.
Commenting on the upcoming celebrations, Kumar who has previously delivered lectures at top U.S. universities, shared his delight in joining a community that continues to make significant contributions abroad.
BJANA’s golden jubilee is touted as one of the largest overseas gatherings of the Bihar–Jharkhand community, expected to attract thousands of attendees. It will feature cultural performances, networking opportunities, and showcases of regional heritage, celebrating five decades of shared identity and growth.
