Arizona State University awarded degrees to 1,800 students from India this spring, marking one of the largest graduating cohorts of Indian nationals in the university’s history.

The students were part of ASU’s record-setting spring class of more than 21,000 graduates, including over 3,000 international students. India remains the largest source of international students at ASU, with approximately 7,000 currently enrolled — most of them in graduate programs.

Among the Indian graduates was Omkaar Shenoy, a computer science student from Kerala, who contributed to streamlining operations at ASU’s Office of Media Relations through his programming expertise. After earning his degree from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, he is set to begin his career with hospitality firm Aramark in Philadelphia.

“ASU was very helpful in terms of giving me the resources to find this job,” Shenoy said. “The university also gave me a great foundation in coding and a broader skill set in media and sciences, which allowed me to explore my creative side.”

Another Indian student, Ana Girish, earned a degree in aerospace engineering with a focus on astronautics. She has been hired as an associate product engineer by Solestial, an Arizona-based startup developing solar panels for space.

ASU president Michael Crow, who recently visited India, said the university expects even more students from the country in the coming years.

“ASU is a place that is deeply committed to the students who come here,” Crow said. “We are expecting more students from India than ever, and we are ready and excited to welcome students who are eager to learn and succeed.”

To honor the contributions of its global student body, the university held an International Student Celebration on May 10, ahead of its formal commencement ceremonies.

Arizona State University now counts over 20,000 Indian nationals among its alumni, reflecting the university’s long-standing academic links with India.
