Varun Cidambi, a second-year student from the University of Notre Dame Law School, has earned the distinction for fostering meaningful conversations on democracy, civil rights, and judicial equity within his law school community.
As president of the ACS student chapter at Notre Dame Law School, he has expanded programming on voting rights, judicial ethics, and economic justice while promoting dialogue across the ideological spectrum. “Serving as president of Notre Dame’s ACS Student Chapter has been the most meaningful experience I have had during my time here,” Cidambi said.
Akanksha Balekai, a law student at the University of Illinois College of Law, has been commended for her tireless work in organizing impactful programming that connects students with thought leaders and legal reform advocates. She serves as the president of the University of Illinois chapter of the American Constitution Society and has been an active member of the national organization as well.
Ruchika Sharma, a doctoral candidate at American University Washington College of Law, has extensive experience in civil rights, and policy advocacy, championing equity and social justice nationwide. She has previously interned under the US Department of Justice and the American Bar Association. She also chaired several committees during her undergraduate studies at George Washington University, where she graduated with a BA in international relations.
Sharma, one of the twelve ACS student leaders, co-launched a nationwide initiative uniting over 1,200 law students across institutes to defend the rule of law against the Trump administration’s attacks on lawyers and judges.
The American Constitution Society is a non-profit, non-partisan legal organization comprising a network of progressive lawyers, law students, judges, scholars, advocates, and many others. Launched in 2007, the NGL program identifies rising lawyers who “represent the future of the progressive legal movement at a time when we need them more than ever to join us in the fight for the rule of law and our democracy,” Zinelle October, ACS interim president said.
