Diaspora demands direct Air India Dallas-Hyderabad flight
Indian students enrolled in numerous Texas universities and the state's substantial diaspora would both benefit from the direct flight route.

A petition has been launched by members of the Telugu diaspora calling for a non-stop Air India flight that would connect the Indian city of Hyderabad with Dallas, Texas, in the United States.
This is significant because a considerable number of Indians reside in Texas, who must make extra-long layovers in the Middle East or Europe due to the lack of direct flight routes, thereby extending their travel time.
“We request Air India to start a Direct Flight from Dallas to Hyderabad. India. Dallas Fort Worth metroplex and surrounding areas are considered Telugu speaking Hub. Out of 400 thousand Indians in DFW at least 50- 60% are Telugu people. Every Year lot of Telugu students coming to Dallas to study while lot of Telugu including elderly parents are traveling to live with their children,” the petition started by a resident of Frisco, Texas, Venkat Mulukutla, reads.
According to Mulukutla, it would be preferable if Air India provided a nonstop service rather than first stopping at destinations such as Doha or Dubai, which are approximately 4-5 hours away from India. The petition has already gained more than 4,500 signatures.
Many who signed the petiotion stated that the direct route will benefit majority of the passengers, particularly the burgeoning student population and people traveling frequently with elderly parents and kids as well as business travelers and tourists. Others also mentioned that a direct route would be beneficial for Indian diaspora from neighbouring cities like Austin and Houston.
Air India currently operates direct flights to five American cities, including New York, Newark (New Jersey), Washington, DC, Chicago, and San Francisco. Earlier this year, there were reports of the airline starting flights from Indian cities to Seattle, Los Angeles and Dallas during the winter of 2024–25. However, no official announcement has been made.
