American Chemical Society announces Dr. Bhaskar R. Venepalli Award

The North Carolina Local Section of the American Chemical Society has established the Dr. Bhaskar R. Venepalli Award for Distinguished Speaker of the Year in honor of the Indian American entrepreneur and scientist.
Venepalli has been a prominent member of the North Carolina ACS local section and served as its chair in 2019.

His dedication and contributions to the chemical sciences were recognized at the national level when he was named an ACS Fellow in 2017.
Venepalli is also a recipient of the 2022 Marcus E. Hobbs Award and the 2025 Henry F. Whalen Jr. Award from the ACS Division of Business Development and Management.
The new honor, established by the North Carolina ACS, follows the creation of an endowment fund to support the annual award, which recognizes contributors to the chemical sciences who deliver the keynote address at the local section’s annual meeting.
The local section has officially renamed the award the “Dr. Bhaskar R. Venepalli Award for Distinguished Speaker of the Year” in recognition of a significant foundational donation that ensures the award’s continued legacy.
The endowment, fully supported by Venepalli, secures the future of the award and allows the North Carolina ACS to raise the annual honorarium and expand opportunities to recognize distinguished scientific communicators in the region.
Venepalli’s commitment and impact have been recognized at both the local and national levels of the American Chemical Society.
The award will be presented at the North Carolina ACS local section annual meeting on Jan. 28, 2026, at North Carolina State University’s Centennial Campus.
Commenting on the award established in his honor, Venepalli wrote on LinkedIn:
“I am delighted to share the news of the annual meeting of the North Carolina Local Section of the American Chemical Society, which will be held on Jan. 28, 2026, where the Bhaskar Venepalli Award for Distinguished Speaker will be presented to Ved Srivastava.”
The North Carolina ACS Local Section is a regional chapter of the American Chemical Society dedicated to advancing the chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of the world.
