The ‘Spirit of Yoga’, a spiritually focused celebration of the International Day of Yoga, will be hosted on June 22, 2025, at Global Harmony House in Great Neck, New York.

Co-organized by the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization and the conscious media platform ALotusInTheMud.com, the event seeks to emphasize the inner dimensions of yoga—its roots in self-awareness, meditation, and spiritual realization.

Departing from conventional Yoga Day observances that often center around physical postures, this gathering aims to reclaim yoga’s philosophical and contemplative essence, the organizers said in a statement.

“We are focusing on yoga as a way of being - anchored in awareness, self- realization, and harmony. Yoga, as in Patanjali’s 8-limbed path, finds its fulfillment in dhyan, asanas are just a part and accessory,” said Parveen Chopra, founding editor of ALotusInTheMud.com and co-moderator of the event.

The program will feature a lineup of speakers and performers. Indian Consul General in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, will attend as chief guest and reflect on India’s global legacy of yoga. Mohini Didi, the international head of the Brahma Kumaris, will offer spiritual blessings, while yoga instructor Eddie Stern will serve as guest of honor.

Other highlights include a guided Raja Yoga meditation by Sister Gayatri Naraine, UN representative of the Brahma Kumaris; a sound bath experience by integrative healing arts practitioner Andonia Fthenakis; and a Dance of Yoga presentation by Dr. Anjali Grover. The event will conclude with a satvik vegetarian meal, embodying yogic principles of purity and non-violence.

“In today’s commercialized wellness world, yoga is often reduced to fitness. But the true spirit of yoga is about connecting to our highest self, to the Supreme, through spiritual awareness," Naraine said.

Held at the Global Harmony House—the Brahma Kumaris’ headquarters for the Americas—the event is expected to welcome over 250 in-person attendees and many more virtually. Registration is free and open until June 15.
