A planned visit by U.S. trade negotiators to New Delhi from Aug. 25-29 has been canceled, delaying talks on a proposed bilateral trade agreement, Indian business and financial news network NDTV Profit reported on Aug. 16, citing people familiar with the matter.
Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
The proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) has undergone five rounds of discussions to date, and the US team was scheduled to visit India for the sixth round.
The talks are important as a 25 percent tariff on Indian goods entering the US has been in place since August 7. An additional 25 percent tariff, imposed as a penalty for India's purchase of crude oil and military equipment from Russia, will take effect on Aug. 27.
