Somerset garba comes alive with youth and Bollywood music

Traditional garba music blended with high-energy Bollywood hits at the Bollywood Club Garba held on Sept. 19 in Somerset, New Jersey. The spirited event, part of the Navratri celebrations, put a modern spin on the traditional dance form, drawing a young, diverse crowd eager to celebrate.
Garba, a traditional Gujarati dance, was performed along with dandiya raas, a dance involving decorative wooden sticks, as the night progressed. Guests dressed in vibrant traditional Indian attire as they came together for this joyful community event.

What made the Somerset event stand out was its focus on Bollywood music and its appeal to younger attendees. Instead of relying solely on traditional garba tunes, organizers brought in a live DJ who played popular Bollywood tracks, remixing them with garba beats to create a modern, club-like atmosphere. Songs ranged from classic dance numbers to the latest Bollywood hits, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic dancers to the floor.
