Missing Indian student in Canada found dead

Vanshika, an Indian student who had been missing in Ottawa for four days, has been found dead under unexplained circumstances, triggering concern within the Indo-Canadian community. The cause of her death is currently under investigation by local authorities.
The news comes just hours after the Indian High Commission in Ottawa on Apr.28 issued a public appeal on social media seeking information about her whereabouts. “HCI Ottawa is in touch with local partner Indo-Canadian community associations and concerned authorities regarding a missing person alert for an Indian student in Ottawa. If anyone has any information, please provide the same to the contacts as given below,” read the initial post on X.

Later that day, the embassy confirmed her death in a follow-up post, expressing deep sorrow and pledging support to her family. “We are deeply saddened to be informed of the death of Ms. Vanshika, a student from India in Ottawa. The matter has been taken up with concerned authorities and the cause is under investigation as per local police. We are in close contact with the bereaved kin and local community associations to provide all possible assistance,” it stated.

According to a letter sent by the Hindi Community in Ottawa to the city’s police service, Vanshika had left her residence at 7 Majestic Drive on the evening of Apr.25. She never returned home and failed to appear for a crucial examination the next day, something her family described as entirely out of character.
“Vanshika has been missing since the evening of Friday, April 25th, 2025, after leaving her residence at 7 Majestic Drive around 8-9 PM to view a rental room. Her phone was switched off at approximately 11:40 PM that night, and she missed an important exam the following day — an action completely out of character for her. Despite extensive efforts by her family and friends, there has been no contact or information about her whereabouts,” the letter stated.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances of her death or where her body was found.
