The Nandy Sisters - Antara and Ankita - are a dynamic Indian vocal duo celebrated for their innovative fusion of classical, folk, and contemporary music. Hailing from Assam, Antara, born in 1999, began her musical journey early, training under Ustad Rashid Khan and gaining national attention as a finalist on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs in 2009. Ankita, born in 2002, discovered her musical talent later, joining her sister in creating the viral "Balcony Concerts" during the COVID-19 lockdown, where they performed multilingual renditions using everyday household items as instruments.
Their unique approach and harmonious performances garnered widespread acclaim, leading to collaborations with renowned artists like A.R. Rahman. Antara made her playback debut with the song "Alaikadal" in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: I, composed by Rahman, which was dubbed in multiple languages. The sisters also ventured into Tollywood with their debut in Raktabeej, further establishing their versatility.
In 2024, the Nandy Sisters partnered with Times Music, releasing hits like "Fagunero Mononaye 2.0," "O Menoka O Menoka," "Maa Kali Mahakali," and "Mera Ghoongta," showcasing their ability to blend traditional sounds with modern beats. Their performances, often incorporating instruments like the ukulele and innovative percussive techniques, have resonated with audiences worldwide, leading to over 173 virtual shows and a growing international fanbase.
Beyond their musical endeavors, the sisters are passionate about promoting Indian folk traditions to younger generations, aiming to make classical and regional music accessible and appealing. Their journey from homegrown performances to international stages exemplifies their dedication to their craft and their role in redefining contemporary Indian music.
